Confirmed For Sheffield Oxjam 2011

So this is the first of several posts highlighting some of the great acts that have so far agreed to play this years Oxjam shindig. We’ve not stopped trying to bring some of Sheffield’s best acts together to create a rather super little festival for you. Without further ado, here’s 3 of the acts who will be performing for your pleasure:

The Spires

One of the most energetic and engaging bands currently in Sheffield, The Spires could get a graveyard dancing. They’d been a band I always had the misfortune to miss whenever they played in Sheffield, but I finally caught up with them twice this year and was blown away by the frenetic live performance of a band clearly in love with what they are doing.

If you’ve never seen them, I recommend them highly and we’re delighted they are one of our headline acts for Sheffield Oxjam 2011. They will be playing the Bencassim Festival in beautiful Barcelona on July 14th and then headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at Tramlines the weekend after!

Gypsy Toes

Next up we have one of Sheffield’s busiest bands around, having hit the live circuit running last October.  Having already supported DD/MM/YYYY, Section Sixtie and The Monday Club, these guys are building up a nice little fanbase. One of the best live bands in Sheffield who win new fans every time they play.

With a somewhat different sound which marks them as unique, comparisons to Gypsy Toes are not easy to come by, but that would do them a disservice. With a vast sound, and the occasional stylophone solo thrown in, not many bands are as brave to try and do something so different.  Also recently confirmed for Tramlines and the Mychoones Festival in Derbyshire, Oxjam will mark their one year live circuit anniversary.

Emily Stancer

Emily is one of Sheffield’s brightest up and coming acts, coupling a powerful yet tender voice, a growing repertoire of self penned songs with super guitar playing. With a monthly residency at The Frog & Parrot on Division Street, Emily is one of the most hard working acts on the Sheffield live scene.

At only 18, Emily’s maturity as an artist blew me away the first time I saw her live and she continues to develop her craft at an alarming rate. Consistently brilliant live, we here at Sheffield Oxjam Towers, feel she’s a massive future ahead of her and are delighted she’ll be performing at Oxjam 2011
